SportsNews – President Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo critical of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) which decide the F1 will use 4-cylinder engine in the season 2013.
With the use of the machine with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder replaces the 2.4-liter V8, F1 cars will be expected to live environmentally friendly and energy efficient. With a cylinder capacity smaller, F1 racing is expected to reduce fuel consumption reached 35 percent.
However, this regulation has been criticized because it considers the quality of F1 Luca di Montezemolo will be reduced by using lower-powered engine.
“4-cylinder engine that is not F1. We’re not going to build a car with the engine. For upper-class racing, it sounds very sad,” said Luca di Montezemolo told Auto Motor and Sport, Sunday, January 2, 2011.
“Why can not we use turbo V6 engine? We should not be confused with the ability of the cheap.”
President Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo admitted will try to find a better solution than the 4-cylinder engine for use in summer 2013.
“If there is a possibility to delay regulation of 4-cylinder, I’ll look. We see the opportunity later on. We need unity,”said Luca di Montezemolo.
President Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo statement has the support of Mercedes boss, Norbert Haug, who asserted, “would be better to develop the V8 engine. V8 engine is a cheap machine.”
